The Thomas Fogarty Winery sits atop a magnificent hillside overlooking the Bay Area in Woodside, California. The winery is one of our favorite wedding venues to shoot - mostly because of its views of the Bay and the most exciting mountain region in California.
In July of 2019, we made the hike up to Woodside to shoot another Indian Wedding at the Vineyard. Bindu and Ashish were the lucky couple tying the knot, and they had plenty of friends and family there to celebrate!
Ashish and her ladies started off the festivities with some beautiful traditional Henna artwork that didn’t quite match her gorgeous diamond ring, but with a rock like that - who cares?
The Winery provided us with an absolutely stunning large red rose to capture Ashish’s tattooed hands resting in Bindu’s palms during the couple’s photo session before the wedding ceremony. After the two parted, Ashish began the long, wonderful process of dawning her saree, a beautiful traditional Indian garb known for its bright colors, yards of enchanted fabric, and elegant lace. Many yards of colorful, high-quality fabric, bright diamond necklaces and wristlets, and hours of time go into making the saree a work of art, and Ashish looked like the most stunning work of art in hers.
Meanwhile, Bindu dawned a bright red sherwani decorated elegantly with flowers and vines as he led his Baraat (a traditional groom’s procession before every Indian wedding) through the well-cultivated vines and up to the ceremony site overlooking the bay. A beautiful mandap (wedding altar) awaited, adorned with lush green vines, lively flowers, and soft white drapes forming a window into the Bay.
Hindu marriages are sacraments, not just contracts, so in the center of the mandap, a fire is kindled that burns as a witness to the viability of the ceremony, and offerings are made. The ceremony begins with a prayer to Ganesha, the god of beginnings and good fortune and the remover of obstacles. Salutations are offered so that Ganesha may pave the way for the couple's married life.
After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed hors devours under a beautiful open air pavilion as we stole the newly married couple away for some intimate shots in the vineyard. Ashish wore an incredibly elegant and flowy baby blue dress and Bindu dawned a royal blue traditional suit to match.
The backside of Thomas Fogarty’s vineyard descends into an incredible “valley of the grapes”, where we captured an intimate moment of the couple sharing a kiss amongst the acres and acres of lush green vines. The black and white photo below captured a new couple embarking on a journey that is older than time itself, and we were lucky to share witness with the vines.
Looking for a wedding venue that combines the best views of the Bay with time-honored tradition and a historic atmosphere? We recommend checking out Thomas Fogarty Winery for your wedding.
