Few things capture the heart of a wedding like a groom shedding tears of joy as his bride walks toward him down the aisle. That moment is only made better by a bride who oozes with excitement as she embarks on her last journey as a single woman.
Tom and Paige gave us the gift of capturing these exciting moments at their Seascape Beach Resort Wedding in Santa Cruz earlier this year.
The Seascape Beach Resort is a luxury wedding venue that sits on 17 miles of secluded beachfront right on Monterey Bay, just an hour’s drive from Silicon Valley. They specialize in building custom wedding packages for each bride and groom.
Shooting photography at a beach can be challenging for wedding professionals because of the bright colors of the sunlight and the glare of the hot white sand. If you know anything about photography, you know that lighting is everything.
But luckily at Seascape, their beachfronts are complemented by lush plants, beautifully manicured gardens and lawns, and panoramic ocean views that turn what normally presents a challenge into a photographer’s playground. We got to experiment with all kinds of different shots: from having the bright white light dance in the veiled folds of Paige’s beautiful dress accentuate the soft pinks and whites to allowing the great beachside trees to provide us with the perfect gold-light backdrop in the afternoon. One of our favorites was the thrill of the first kiss and the after shot of Paige and Tom’s ecstatic laughter, set against a bright white background. When the sun gives you that kind of backdrop to work with, every feature and expression from the couple stands out even more.
One of our favorite shots actually took place facing away from the beach, with Tom and Paige enjoying a quiet, joyful moment together in front of the lush green bushes and golden rays of the sunset that have come to characterize weddings at Seascape Beach Resort.
So on this day, we made the light work for us before ending the evening with a dance and long kiss in front of the blues and golds that waved goodbye to the last sun rays of the day.
The reception was a bit easier to work with, as the bright white light of the sun was replaced by a softer light from the elegant crystal chandeliers. The resort staff did an excellent job of decorating, and the large floor to ceiling windows provided a magnificent view of the sun setting over Monterey Bay.
As the night drew to a close, Paige and Tom enjoyed one last intimate moment on the dance floor before heading off from Seascape Beach Resort to start their lives together.
