A Sonoma, California wedding is a wedding fit for fairy tales. The rich, earthy, vineyard soils that produce some of the best wines in the world serve as the planting ground for another institution that grows sweeter with time - a marriage.
Michelle and Vu’s Golden Vineyard Wedding at Vintners Inn in Sonoma took place on a hot California day that allowed us to capture the magic of wine country.
Michelle’s elegant white dress draped from her shoulders like the surrounding vines draped from the old stucco walls. Vu’s confident laughter and joy captivated the room and provided an exquisite complement to Michelle’s soft grin. Vineyards in Sonoma, California give us as wedding photographers unique opportunities to capture natural, historic beauty while playing with different lighting schemes provided by arid soils, bushy green vines, old Spanish churches, and golden California sun rays.
Michelle looked lovely in her white dress as Vu twirled her from vine to vine in the warm California sun pre-ceremony. Michelle’s dad’s sun worn face glowed with a deeper red as he kissed her and handed her off to the man of her dreams after walking her down the aisle, and the blessing of the priest provided us with an opportunity to capture the moment when Michelle and Vu’s commitment to each other was made official before God and man.
The white and golds inside the Spanish church complemented perfectly with Vu’s grey suit, and we got to play a little bit with old school black and white’s that allowed us to create historic looking photos.
One of a photographer’s biggest challenges is to work with different forms of lighting, and moving from hot vineyards to big, empty churches and then out to a nighttime reception gave us the opportunity to do just that. Luckily, vineyards in Sonoma are used to weddings and Vintners Inn had string lights and chandeliers that would set the tone for capturing the atmosphere of a beautiful reception.
The hot Sonoma sun soon gave way to a cool California evening that made for the perfect end to a perfect day. The pinks, whites, and soft purples of the blooms around the venue helped make the transition from day to dusk as the reception commenced. The beautifully sculpted lawn at Vintners Inn played host to a reception full of joy, laughter, dancing, and, of course, Sonoma’s own wine.
We’re thankful Michelle and Vu allowed us to play a part in their big day, and if you are looking for a fairytale outdoor wedding in historic wine country, we definitely recommend you make a Sonoma, California wedding your own.
