Alright, two questions:
Have you ever seen Beethoven?
Are miniature horses a wedding dream animal?
If you answered “yes” or even “uhhh, I guess?” to either of these questions, you’re going to love these photos from Courtney Jo and Steve-o’s rustic ranch wedding at Mini Hacienda, a miniature horse ranch AND vineyard (like, really?) in Martinez, just north of the Bay Area.
This was by far one of the most creative weddings we’ve ever shot. Take a look at even the first few photos. Flowers in wine corks? Beethoven (who goes by Maize) with a flower garland around her neck? Come on. Just too good. We’ve got to give a huge shout out to 10K Weddings and Avida Bridal for putting this one together. It was beautiful and creative from start to finish.
Courtney Jo’s bridesmaids dawned elegant dark (but soft) purple dresses while holding natural bouquets made of Baby’s Breath, giant sunflowers, and more earthy plants that complemented the ranch at Mini Hacienda beautifully. Steve-o’s light grey suit and yellow bowtie matched the old world feel of the ranch perfectly, and we were able to capture an incredible grey-scale portrait shot that fit the mellow, old school mood of the day in the best of ways.
We loved watching Courtney Jo smile admiringly at her father as he walked her down the aisle, and this warm black and white shot of their final hug before he handed her off really captured the bond between father and daughter.
Maize was an exceptional ring bearer, standing by Courtney Jo’s side as they said their vows and Steve-O’s groomsmen cried. A large sunflower tree formed a picturesque background for the first kiss - it was almost as if the flowers were smiling down at the happy couple before Maize escorted them back down the aisle as one.
Then came the real fun for us photographers! Mini Hacienda gave us the ability to exercise our creativity all over the ranch, and we took advantage! Maize kept his place as the guardsmen of the happy couple as we shot in their rustic fields before heading over for a few shots with the miniature horses. (Yeah, we took shots with the miniature horses. And yeah, Maize was almost bigger than they were.)
Even better? Mini Hacienda Ranch also has a vineyard, so we got some exquisite shots of the couple sharing some intimate moments between the vines.
At the reception is where 10K Wedding and Avida Bridal really started showing off, illuminating the garden with large string lights and adorning the long wooden farm tables with massive sunflowers, big green leaves, and offset candles. It’s always fun shooting such natural beauty, and Courtney Jo and Steve-O’s sweet and tranquil reception added even more.
