Not many things say “commitment” like a military man in his dress blues. That may be why Matt and Ashlyn’s Vintage Elliston Vineyards wedding spoke to us so beautifully earlier this year.
Elliston Vineyards’ weddings take place against the backdrop of a dramatic greystone mansion nestled in the hills of Sunol, California, right in the heart of historic Livermore Valley Wine Country. The mansion provided the perfect setting for Ashlyn’s vintage taste and Matt’s historic feel. We did the first look in an old drawing room, with Matt solemnly gazing over the vineyard like a general guiding his troops, while Ashlyn tiptoed silently past the old piano in her awe-inspiring dress and long train. The first look was one of solemn peace - one that comes from a deep well of the soul.
The ceremony took place at the gazebo on the lovely patio. Matt strode in past the witness of the old stone and deep purples, reds, and greens of the flora around the garden. He proudly clutched his saber at his side, a symbol of nobility for a man on a mission to win his bride like in the days of old. Except he didn’t have to fight to win this time - Ashlyn and her dad beamed as the Elliston Vineyards’ wedding staff worked to make sure her long white train glided neatly down the aisle. After their vows and first kiss (which, by the way, makes for an even better photo when there’s a saber involved), Matt and Ashlyn strode proudly back down the aisle.
The vineyard gave us plenty of opportunity to capture Ashlyn’s taste for vintage. After the ceremony, we captured some elegant moments in front of a bubbling waterfall originating from the old stone formations. It really did feel like a movie - except Ashlyn and Matt were starting their life together instead of kissing each other goodbye before heading off to war.
After their victorious moment, the couple made the short walk past the old stone home and into the Terrace Room, a beautiful reception room cut into the hillside. The high vaulted ceilings create a lovely charm and spaciousness while the floor to ceiling windows allow guests to enjoy the vineyard’s picture perfect oak and olive trees flanking the room. The lovely hardwood floors only added to the feeling of timelessness and provided a stunning base for these photos of Matt twirling his bride.
