Modesto's Summer heat makes you work twice as hard for each breath, like the Sun's boot is weighed heavy on your chest (if only to assert dominance over visiting photographers). Imagine my delight then, as I dipped my toes into the crisp and clear waters of the Hamilton family's backyard pool. That moment flooded me with true, refreshing relief, and paired with the reminder of unabashed joy--as reflected in the faces of Savannah and Scarlett while they flittered around the pool like moths--made for an amazing day in the Sun.

I submitted a few of the above photos to National Geographic's open assignment, "The Pool" and have already had amazing feedback from their curator. I'm feeling pretty great about yesterday's shoot, and am already looking forward to my next dip in underwater photography (collective pun moan heard, felt and accepted).
